“I Will...but First…”

Every day, we have the opportunity to say “yes” to Jesus. Our “yes” is an affirmation of our trust in Christ as well as a promise to follow Christ. Our participants in the process of becoming Catholic are learning to decide how they will respond to Jesus’ invitation to follow Him.

Our participants will be reading in the bible the various responses to Jesus’ invitation to follow Him. They will discuss the many excuses those in the Gospel stories used to postpone their journey with Jesus. What our participants will come to learn is that our family life, career, and personal relationships take on their true meaning only when following Christ is our highest priority.

On the first Sunday of Lent, catechumens and candidates will celebrate the combined rite of election and call to continuing conversion at the Cathedral of the Most Blessed Sacrament in Detroit. Election comes from a word that means “choose.” The ceremony reflects the candidates and catechumens choosing to say “Yes” to Jesus and follow Him to the celebration of the Easter sacraments.

QUESTIONS TO CONSIDER

  • What does it mean to be a disciple?
  • How do you respond when something Jesus says makes you uncomfortable?
  • What steps can you take to better accept Christ’s call for you?

Peace be with you.
