Today we celebrate Epiphany. The coming of the magi who followed a star. Today when we think of an epiphany we believe that someone has had a sudden insight into the deeper meaning of something. The insight that we should receive from the Gospel today is that Jesus came not just for the Jews but for the Gentiles and these Magi travelled to find him.
In today’s world we can be told that Jesus could not have been born on December 25th, or the Star was a fairy tale, and the Magi just someone’s nice story to tell. It can be easy to believe in reading some of the denials that we are having an epiphany about this event and become confused.
Today’s culture is plagued by people seeking a higher meaning to things in all the wrong places. Let US remember that God has given us all the answers we need in Sacred Scripture. We just have to ask him!
In Christ. Deacon Tom
