Youth Ministry Program

The St. Mary Youth Group is offered for both middle school and high school students (in two separate groups).  The group, which meets on Sunday evening, helps teens grow in relationship with Jesus Christ, while learning the importance of serving others and developing relationships with other Catholic teens.

Our Reach Mission Trip to Crossville Tennessee was an incredible experience had by all. God is so good! We joined St. Fabian on the pilgrimage to this work camp, where 350 of us pilgrims from all over the Midwest and of various Christian denominations served 43 homes. We painted, completed house repairs, built handicap ramps, decks, and roofs; we even put in carpeting, siding, windows, and much more. The theme of this year's camp was "Light It Up" based on Matthew's scripture 5:14-16 paraphrased: 'we are the light of the world and our light cannot be hidden so, shine on to others and let them see your good deeds which glorify our Heavenly Father!'

Indeed, our goodwill towards our neighbors (the homeowners) was tremendously life changing. But the experience was also life changing for some of the youth. So much so, that one of our own teen parishioners encountered Christ firsthand. Please enjoy her testimony and the picture collage highlighting our missions in TN. Thank you to all who prayed for us and who gave monetary support at our youth ministry fundraisers to get us there!

Sophie's Mission Trip Reflection- "God's plan for me literally blows my mind. Going into the trip, I was far from excited, I was quite hesitant to the point I didn't want to attend. However, God had another plan, a plan that literally transformed my life.

The first night on the trip, I met a group of strangers from all over the country, coming from different types of communities, and Christian faiths. I was scared, but ready to dive in to transform a house, and life of our neighbor. Our mission was to take off wallpaper, paint the kitchen, clean and stain the deck, paint a hallway and the exterior foundation, and weed the garden. Arriving the first day, my crew and I dove into the work conquering more and more everyday while bonding and getting to know each other in unexpected ways. We talked about our faith, opened up to one another and let God into our lives. I really enjoyed and loved my crew.

But it wasn't the crew or neighbor that changed me, it was God. On Thursday night, everyone from REACH lit a candle, because the theme of was "Light It Up" representing we are the light of the world. While I lit my candle, I had a lot on my heart at the time, and felt God telling me to let go and pour everything out to Ms. Renee, my sister Isabelle, and my best friend Christine. I told them everything I was going through, and by that act of surrendering in sharing my thoughts and feelings with them, everything became very clear to me.

What I learned is, it is so important to open up and talk things out with people in your life you can count on. And that it is equally important to be able to stand on your own, to be your own person. I had been taking a step back in some aspects of my life because of how I thought others would react, but now I have learned I can do anything and everything for myself through Christ. We should believe in ourselves because we are His light in the world. I have accepted myself for where I am on this crazy journey with God because I truly believe in His plan. I have also decided to make my last year in youth group (senior year) more meaningful and to leave a lasting impression on the next generation. I am exited to talk with other youth/teens about Christ and how we can learn more about Him everyday (more teens should join youth ministry)! REACH was by far amazing this summer and I cannot wait to attend this pilgrimage again in our own backyard of Vassar, Michigan next July 2018!"
